POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
ADVANCED INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM PLANNING
NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Logistics Management

Montreal, Canada
The NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Logistics Management, School of
Business Administration, University of Quebec in Montreal, and the Center
for Research on Transportation, Montreal, open a postdoctoral position
in Operations Research and Transportation.
The postdoctoral fellow will collaborate to the research program of the
Chair on advanced intermodal and consolidation transportation planning,
in particular the development of models and methods for the design of
transportation plans for scheduled, fixed-composition rail services, and
for incident management.
The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Professor Teodor Crainic,
chairholder, Professor Michel Gendreau, graduate students, and the
industrial partners of the Chair.
The postdoctoral project is planned to start early in 2006 (end of
February, at the latest) for a duration of 12 months, renewable.
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Operations Research and applications to transportation.
Particular qualifications: modelling, network and mixed-integer
programming, combinatorial optimization, meta-heuristics.
Highly desirable: programming skills and knowledge of freight
transportation with consolidation.
Strong skills in English scientific writing are a pre-requisite.
Knowledge of French, or willingness to learn, would make life in Montreal
even more enjoyable.

La chaire de recherche industrielle du CRNSG en management logistique,
ESG-UQAM, et le Centre de recherche sur les transports de Montréal ouvrent
un poste de chercheur postdoctoral en recherche opérationnelle et
transport.
Le chercheur postdoctoral collaborera au programme de recherche de la
Chaire portant sur la plannification de systèmes avancés de transport
intermodal et avec consolidation, plus particulièrement au développement
de méthodes pour la conception des plans de transport des services de
chemin de fer à composition fixe et horaires, ainsi que pour la gestion
des incidents.
Le chercheur postdoctoral travaillera en étroite collaboration avec le
professeur Teodor Crainic, titulaire de la chaire, le professeur Michel
Gendreau, des étudiants de deuxième et troisième cycle, ainsi que les
partenaires industriels.
Le projet de recherche postdoctoral devrait commencer tôt en 2006 (au plus
tard à la fin de février), pour une durée de 12 mois, renouvelable.
QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorat en recherche opérationnelle avec application en transport.
Qualifications particulières : modélisation, optimisation des réseaux,
programmation en nombres entiers et mixte, optimisation combinatoire,
méta-heuristiques
Hautement désirable : compétences en programmation et connaissances du
transport de marchandises avec consolidation
Pré-requis: Haute compétence en rédaction scientifique en langue anglaise
