Job
Title: FACULTY POSITIONS
Date Posted: 10/11/2004
Department: CIVIL ENGINEERING
Summary: The College of Engineering at the
University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking faculty members at all
ranks that can contribute to and help create a number of cross-cutting
research areas. Faculty candidates are encouraged to apply for positions
in the areas noted below and in other cross-cutting disciplines. Faculty
members can represent any of the traditional engineering and computer
science areas, even if those areas are not currently represented at UTEP.
Primary areas are noted below. These are new positions due to growth of
our academic and research programs. UTEP is a Carnegie doctoral-intensive
University with an enrollment of 19,000 students. Our campus, situated
where the Rocky Mountains meet the Rio Grande, echoes the beauty of the
surrounding high desert. El Paso is a highly livable, bi-cultural
community of 700,000 people that offers affordable homes and is a major
meeting point for the United States and Latin America. QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Engineering or a related
field, P.E.preferred.
• Infrastructure: Special emphasis will be placed on candidates
with expertise and experience in geotechnical engineering, structural
engineering and urban transportation planning. Other specialties that
contribute to surface and subsurface infrastructure are of interest, as
well. Power systems, traffic monitoring and control, and intelligent
transportation systems, represent additional areas of interest.
• Environmental Health and Engineering: El Paso is located in an
ideal area to study environmental issues. The U.S. Mexico border region
has unique environmental and health concerns that are complex because of
multiple governmental jurisdictions and diverse economic groupings.
Candidates are especially sought with expertise in understanding human
risk analysis, arid-region hydrology; contaminant properties and
transport (air and water); environmental policy issues; environmental
biological applications; groundwater resources; and desalination.
• Related Areas: Other focal areas include bioengineering, nano-
and microtechnologies, and high assurance systems. Candidates from these
and other evolving cross-cutting areas such as advanced manufacturing;
high performance computing; safety and projectile impact; and alternative
energy sources will be considered if they contribute to one of the areas
identified above.
To Apply: (Incomplete Application Packets will not be
considered)
Please send a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of
teaching and research interests, and contact information for at least
four professional references to Faculty Recruiting Committee, UTEP,
College of Engineering, El Paso, TX, 79968-0517. Information about the
department and El Paso is available at
