Dear Seafood Colleagues:
The following announcement is about the 10th biennial conference of the
International Institute of Fisheries Economics & Trade (IIFET). But, PLEASE
don't read the word "economics", assume it's not relevant or interesting to
you, and delete the message. We are actively seeking the input of those with
new and interesting ideas and approaches to seafood markets and resource
management issues, from outside the strict realm of economics! Sessions are
already being organized on topics such as the health effects of seafood
consumption, HACCP and other safety programs, eco-labelling, and a variety
of others which may pique your interest. All that is required is an
interesting treatment of the topics as described on the Website, from any
disciplinary perspective. So, please read on and look at the Website, and
seriously consider joining us.
We are very pleased to announce that our second call for abstracts for IIFET
2000, "Microbehavior and Macroresults", including registration information,
has been printed in brochure form, and published on our website at
http://osu.orst.edu/Dept/IIFET/2000. The Website contains more detailed
information than the brochure, and is constantly being updated. (Please note
that as of December 16, we are experiencing some difficulty with Netscape
access, though Internet Explorer works; if you don't succeed right away,
please try again in a few days!) If you would prefer to receive a printed
copy of the brochure, please reply and request one (or more); please include
your mailing address.
This conference will be a wide ranging, interdisciplinary event which will
attract hundreds of economists, other social scientists, food and health
scientists, biologists, legal scholars, resource managers, and international
organization and private industry representatives from all over the world,
to exchange ideas and solutions surrounding the complex problems of
fisheries and resource management, seafood and food markets, and
aquaculture. Please look at the Website for a detailed list of the potential
conference topics (click on http://www.orst.edu/Dept/IIFET/2000/topics.html
to go straight there). Among those who will be joining us are Jim
Crutchfield, Rognvaldur Hannesson, Ron Jones, Dan McFadden, Tony Scott, and
Martin Weitzman. These and some 200 others have already committed to being
here; please reserve yourself a place among us by submitting an abstract
and/or registering early.
>From the website, you may also:
* submit your abstract
* print out a registration form to fill in and return by mail or fax
* check out regional tourism links and plan a vacation in conjunction with
IIFET 2000
The submission deadline for abstracts has been pushed back from January 15
to January 31, 2000. Please send in your submission as soon as possible, to
avoid the last minute crush.
Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to meeting you in
person next July 10-14 at IIFET 2000!
