Dear Seafood Listers:
Fundacion Chile is a non profit private organization with the aim to
improve the Chilean economy through technical innovation. With
this objective we have developed catfish aquaculture for the local
market in the land formerly dedicated to rice growing. Our economy
is quite open and our farms are no longer competitive to other
Mercosur rice producers.
Chilean fish consumers are fond of our white flesh hake, which has
found very interesting markets in other countries, leaving a market
gap that could be fulfilled by the channel catfish. Our experimental
farm, about 300 km South of Santiago is thriving quite well and now
is time to develop a proper processing plant.
For this purpose we would like to visit some processing plants in
the Mississippi or Alabama area and we need contacts to do so.
On the other hand we might also require some professional help for
the design, startup, and operation of the plant plus the promotion of
this new product in Chile. Any contacts you may know about these
issues are going to help.
