I'm not sure if this would help, but a number of years ago Gerry Knecht of
North Atlantic Seafood, Portland Me. 207-774-6025 used treated ice on his
vessels and in his processing facility to reduce bacterial growth. If I
remember correctly it was done in conjucntion with the Univ. of Rhode
Island and an article was published- there might have been a grant
involved. Other than this, the boats here in the Northeast use shoreside
produced fresh water ice, with just a few onboat units producing seawater
