It's almost been a year since I've posted general information about the
mailing list. Based on recent activities (posters having difficulty
getting their messages onto the list; anonymous posters, etc.) I'm sending
information about the seafood HACCP mailing list that Bob Price (Extension
Specialist) and I (Program Representative) co-own here at the University
of California, Davis, CA. (The mailing list is part of our Sea Grant
Extension Program HACCP and seafood technology extension of information
effort to the seafood industry.)

1. If your name (first and last) is not automatically included your
outgoing e-mail address, please include it (a company name, location would
be helpful also) at the end of your message so the group of 835
subscribers on this list know who is posting the message. Also, we
sometimes have several folks from the same organization subscribed. When
your name is included in your message we know who to contact when there
are server problems in posting your message.
2. Subscribers can only post messages from the e-mail address that they
are subscribed under. If your e-mail address changes, please send me an
e-mail message and I can update your subscription. If you forget that you
are using a different e-mail address and try to post a message, only Bob
and I receive it--as an error message. We respond to senders of the error
messages.
3. Sometimes subscribers have not changed their e-mail address, but they
still have difficulty posting a message. Bob and I also get these
messages as "error messages." On that occassion we notify the subscriber
and we try to find a solution to the posting problem.
4. If folks have difficulty in posting a message, I will post it on their
behalf. If you receive this message directly from me, you are able to
post your messages on the mailing list by addressing it to
seafood@ucdavis.edu -- you do not need to forward your messages to either
Bob or me. (Some companies have one e-mail address and internally forward
the seafood HACCP mailing list messages. Even though we have 835
subscribers, I believe that the messages extend beyond a 1000 readers. I
have chatted with folks who say that they get the information, but are not
subscribed.)
5. If a person tries to post a message using an e-mail address that is not
recognized by the mailing list server, an automatic response is generated
instructing the person how to contact Bob or me for assistance.
6. Quite often on weekends I check the mailing list activity because there
are nonsubscribers who try to spam us with their junk e-mail. I notify
our UCD Postmaster of the activity and I also place the nonsubscriber on a
*special list* which prevents them from posting even if they end up
subscribing to this mailing list.
