The Multilingual Dictionary of Fish and Fish products gives palometa (one
word) as the Spanish name for one of the pompanos, Trachinotus ovatus,
family Carangidae. However the FAO Yearbook of Fishery Statistics lists 4
palometa's all of the family Stromateidae, pomfrets: Palometa del Pacifico
= Peprilus simillimus; Palometa fiatola=Stromateus fiatola; Palometa
pampano=Peprilus aiepidotus; Palometa pintada=Peprilus triacanthus. It give
Parona signata as the zoological name of a member of the Carangidae family,
parona leatherjack. The Multilingual Dictionary gives harvest fish as the
common name of Peprilus spp.
