Ausies obviously are missing two events related to metal detectors. The
first, which I issue with much tongue in cheek, is that you obviously
don't own stock in a publically traded metal detector manufacturing
company. Second, and perhaps more importantly, is that we have had
numerous experiences with fraudulent placement of foreign objects in
consumable goods (Ex. syringes in soft drinks). Processors who use
detectors at least reduce some liability in the latter case. Now
then are metal detectors justified in HACCP? Many times they are not and
I believe they are overused.
