Monkfish, Lophius sp. roe question

A local fisherman caught four 20 lb. monkfish, Lophius piscatorius, last =
Sunday. One of them had a large quantity of roe. The roe is long and =
belt like. The gonads were about three feet long. The fisherman asked =
me if he could eat the roe.=20

I am familiar with the delicious monkfish liver, ankimo, so I presume =
that the roe is safe to eat. The fisherman did boil some roe. He told =
me the smell from the boiled roe was very strong although it was fresh.

Has anyone had any personal experience eating monkfish roe? =20
