    POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT - Research Associate – Food Engineering

    (This is a non-tenure track position through 06/30/2011. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for appointment)

    WORK LOCATION: Department of Food Science, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Food Science is seeking a highly motivated and responsible individual for Food Engineering research. This position supports the research and teaching efforts of Dr. Subramaniam Sathivel. Areas of emphasis may include (1) design and development of unit operations for food processing, (2) alternative processing technologies, (3) value added processing of biomaterials and by-products, and (4) packaging of foods which include coating, edible film, and micro-encapsulation. Responsibilities include designing, writing protocols and carrying out research methodologies for food engineering research; assisting in writing research papers and grant proposals; presenting data at national meetings; supervision of and/or assisting students in research; assisting with teaching Food Engineering systems (FDSC 4005) and Quantitative Biology in Engineering (BAE 2352); ordering research and teaching supplies; and traveling to other facilities for analyses. Safety rules of the D
    epartment of Food Science must be followed.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have a Masters or Ph.D. in food, agricultural, biological, chemical, biochemical or closely related engineering field, with an emphasis in food engineering and with a strong background in pilot plant operations. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
