Hi to all,
I am a graduate of Fishery Sciences from Iran. I have found this
tradition very interesting and very similar to one of the oldest
traditional remedy for jaundice (or icteric) in Iran in which the
patients swallowed tiny live fish which were caught from spring waters
or from other clean sources ("clean" as my ancestors thought)). They
trusted deeply to this as the final and main cure and they had no doubt
on its efficiency (as many may still have). But now it has drawn my
attention on the potential risks that this old treatment may have.
I think that tiny but young fish may have a lower potential parasitic
infestations risks rather than old or bigger ones; but if it would be
the case, what about other hazards?
Like Richard I am waiting for your opinion on these ways of eating live
fish either to celebrate a festival or to heal a sick people.
With Kind Regards,
Naim
