    We are looking for *_ONE_* highly qualified individual who is interested in
    pursuing a *Master’s degree with thesis in the area of fisheries or seafood
    sciences *at the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (SFOS), University
    of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF).
     
    *Two years of funding (stipend, tuition and health insurance included) will
    be available starting in September 2008.

    PROJECT SUMMARY:* The successful candidate will conduct a project under Dr.
    LaRonde and Dr. Oliveira’s guidance that aims at evaluating biochemical
    properties and physical condition of high performance Pacific oysters from
    the Alaska Molluscan Broodstock Program growout site in Kachemak Bay
    (Alaska) for their qualities as a halfshell product. The nature of this
    project is interdisciplinary and the research will be conducted in
    collaboration with Dr. Chris Langdon and Dr. Ford Evans (Marine Broodstock
    Program - Coastal Oregon Marine Experimental Station, Hatfield Marine
    Science Center, Oregon State University). The successful candidate will take
    classes in Juneau/Fairbanks and Kodiak Campus (UAF), but most research will
    be conducted in beautiful City of Kodiak (Kodiak Island, Alaska). During
    summer of 2009, the candidate is expected to conduct research at the Coastal
    Oregon Marine Experimental Station (Hatfield Marine Science Center - Oregon
    State University). This project is funded by Alaska Sea Grant College, and
    funds are available for the candidate to travel between UAF campus locations
     to visit oyster farms in Alaska, and to Newport (Oregon – OSU – Summer
    2009).
     
    *REQUIRMENTS:* Undergraduate transcripts (officially translated in case of
    foreign degree), GRE scores, TOEFL scores (foreign students only), and three
    letters of recommendation are required in the application.
