NATIONAL FISHERIES INSTITUTE (NFI) TO SPONSOR MEETING IN MINIATURE at IBSS

NFI, the Northeast Section of the Institute of Food Technologists, and Research Chefs Association (North Atlantic Region) will hold a joint Meeting in Miniature on Monday, February 25th at the International Boston Seafood Show (IBSS) on the Second Floor of the Boston Convention and Expo Center in Room 254B. All are invited. Membership in NFI, IFT, or RCA is not required.

On site registration for the program titled "Seafood: Healthful, Sustainable, Delectable, and Now" begins at 8 am with an NFI-sponsored continental breakfast. The program begins at 8:30 am with an introduction and welcome by NFI's President John Connelly followed by speakers:

    · David Beutel, Fisheries Extension Specialist from the (URI) University of Rhode Island's Sustainable Fisheries Program speaking on "Is the Entrée Sustainable? Are You Sure?" Many groups claim knowledge on sustainability of seafood products based on their views of management and harvest practices. What should we be eating to be environmentally conscious? Mr. Beutel will guide us through the questions that lead to the answers to sustainable seafood in the future.

    · Dr. Lori Pivarnik, Coordinator, Food Safety Education/Research, Nutrition and Food Sciences Department of URI on "Be Happy, Eat Seafood" Dr. Pivarnik will give an overview on the health benefits of seafood and why what you're not eating can hurt you.

    · Chef Brian Halloran of King & Prince Seafood Corp. on "Seafood Now! Cooking for Health, Sustainability, and Pleasure." Mr. Halloran will discuss why seafood looks, smells, and tastes great!

You may register on site or at www.culinology.com/regionalactivities. See the "Calendar of Events."

(Note: Membership in NFI, IFT, or RCA is not required.) The cost is $10.
