    ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
    SEAFOOD TECHNOLOGY

    WORK LOCATION: Department of Food Science, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

    NATURE OF POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor of Food Science; Tenure-track position (12 month), 80% Extension in the LSU Sea Grant/Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service and 20% Research in the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility of this position is to develop a nationally recognized extension and applied research program in the area of seafood technology. The Assistant/Associate Professor will serve as the seafood technology specialist in the Department of Food Science for the LSU Agricultural Center (AgCenter) and the LSU Sea Grant College Program in all areas pertaining to seafood processing and quality including food safety, HACCP, procession technology, waste disposal and other related areas. (S)he will coordinate and plan activities with seafood processing research counterpart(s) through regular meetings, cooperative grants and contract efforts, advisory efforts with students and all other activities that will foster a seamless interface between Extension and Research. The incumbent will provide educational opportunities and information to the seafood processing industry through training, updates, publications, workshops, newsletters, bulletins, web sites, mass media, plant visits and other viable means of communication. The specialist will organize and give direction and leadership to a seafood technology industry advisory group and work cooperatively with other value-added specialists to establish a Department and Ag Center food industry advisory panel to establish a forum for industry support and direction. (S)he will actively seek extramural funding through grants and contracts to build a viable extension and applied research program in seafood technology and processing.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Food Science or related discipline required. Applicant should be proficient in appropriate analytical techniques and computer applications. Effective human relations skills are required to work with a variety of clientele and professional groups. Interest in a mission-oriented research program and knowledge of food production practices are highly desirable. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form with a variety of audiences is required.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
