    ISSC Executive Director Position Description

    The Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference is seeking a permanent, full time Executive

    Director with leadership, development ability, and organizational skills for a national non-profit

    organization involved in the development of national shellfish guidelines.

    The Executive Director position requires knowledge and expertise of non-profit fiscal

    management, human resource management, state and federal regulatory processes, and extensive

    knowledge of food safety as it relates to Molluscan shellfish is preferable. The position will

    require coordination of external affairs involving interaction with state and federal agencies,

    member of Congress, Congressional committees and staff, state legislative bodies, academia,

    shellfish and other food related industries, and other entities involved in public health issues

    related to the consumption of Molluscan shellfish.

    Candidates for the Executive Director position must have a university Bachelor's Degree or

    more advanced degree, strong interpersonal skills, and a well developed spirit of

    professionalism. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to devise effective organizational

    strategies, inspire supporters, and public observers to embrace the strategies of the organization.

    The candidate should have the flexibility to work effectively on a peer-to-peer basis with a

    variety of organizational cultures including business, not for profit, education, and government

    environments and to elicit their mutual cooperation for the promotion of public health goals. The

    candidate should also project a strong sense of membership service and integrity. The present

    salary range is $65,000 - $80,000. The position includes a benefits package with paid personal

    and annual leave, life and health insurance, savings and investment plan (401-K type).The

    Executive Office of the organization is located in Columbia, South Carolina.
