    Hi all

    IAFI World Seafood Congress 07

    Training - Sharing the Knowledge

The seafood industry is a gigantic global business covering a wide spectrum. From wild capture fishing to aquaculture in harvesting the product; processing, packing and storing; retailing and distribution; fisheries management and compliance; science and research covering a multitude of disciplines, and, finally the service industry that covers everything from supplies of equipment, feed, etc; logistics through a range of administrative processes. It is all about people and capacity building is essential.

The industry needs to encourage young people to enter the industry as well as continue to expand the knowledge of its current workforce. Trainers/educators at all levels have an important role to fulfil. Whether you are an industry trainer, a university academic lecturer or tutor, a teacher in vocational education, a consumer educator, a business coach - if you are involved in seafood in anyway this will be important to you.

Training and education is all about sharing the knowledge and yet we have no international organisation that helps us do this. There is much we can do through cooperation and collaboration.

IAFI is considering establishing a world network of Seafood Trainers/Educators to fill a void that currently exists.

Currently this is a concept, which is on the Agenda at the General Meeting of IAFI on Fri 28 September 2009 - see www.iafi.net for full details.

Current IAFI Directors Roy Palmer (Australia), Steve Otwell (USA) and Mike Dillon (UK) will lead the discussion but everyone will be encouraged to bring forward their ideas on what the Network's aims and objectives should be.

Roy will be in Dublin from 23 September attending the IAFI Workshops and World Seafood Congress or you can contact him directly - email palmerroy@hotmail.com if you are interested but cannot be in Dublin.

    Regards Roy
