    The University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a director for its Fishery
    Industrial Technology Center (FITC) based in Kodiak, Alaska. The mission
    of FITC is “to increase the social and economic value and sustainability
    of the Alaska’s seafood industry through academic programs, basic and
    applied research and development, and public service.” The Director will
    be expected to continue to develop partnerships with the Alaska Seafood
    Industry with the advice of the seven-member FITC Policy Council
    (http://www.sfos.uaf.edu/fitc/about/council/index.html), establish a
    graduate program in Seafood Science and Technology, and expand research
    efforts.

    The Director will head and lead development of a graduate program related
    to the utilization of seafood’s in the School of Fisheries and Ocean
    Sciences (SFOS) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). The Director
    will seek to increase tenure-track faculty positions that presently
    consist of three in aquatic food science (chemistry, engineering and
    microbiology), one fisheries oceanographer, one marine biologist and three
    Marine Advisory Program Agents specializing in marine mammals, marketing
    of natural resources and seafood quality. The Director will supervise
    curriculum development, instruction, and advising for a growing student
    body. Functioning as a member of the faculty, she or he will teach
    courses, advise graduate students, participate in public service, and
    conduct funded research.

    The FITC Director administers a 20,000 ft2 facility which includes fully
    equipped facilities for research and development such as a pilot-scale
    seafood processing plant and laboratories for chemistry, engineering,
    fishery oceanography/marine ecology (including seawater labs for live
    fish), microbiology and sensory evaluation. The FITC supports Fisheries,
    Marine Science and Marine Extension faculty. Graduate students and
    post-doctorates are located at FITC to conduct fisheries and marine
    research. The FITC is connected with other facilities of SFOS and UAF by
    high bandwidth fiber optics, videoconference and web-based teaching
    facilities.
    The Director is a member of the Executive Council of SFOS whose faculty of
    55 includes oceanographers, marine biologists, fisheries scientists and
    marine extension agents. The School’s faculty is located across the state
    primarily in Fairbanks, Juneau, Kodiak, Seward, and Anchorage, with marine
    extension faculty located in Petersburg, Cordova, Homer, Dillingham and
    Bethel as well as at the FITC. More information is available on our web

    Kodiak, Alaska is one of the nation’s leading fishing ports where
    approximately 100,000 metric tons of ground fish, salmon and crab are
    landed and processed each year (www.kodiak.org and www.kodiakisland.org).
    The ancient and modern home of Alutiiq people and the site of the early
    19th Century capital of Russian America, Kodiak is the modern home of a
    large US Coast Guard operations base and the home port of much of the
    Alaska fishing fleet. Kodiak offers an excellent public school system,
    health care, and a wide range of opportunities for outdoor and indoor
    recreation, and the performing arts. Kodiak is connected by frequent air
    service from Anchorage, and by the Alaska Marine Highway System.

    Qualified applicants must possess a Ph.D. in food science or related field
    from an accredited university, must be proficient in English, have
    university-level teaching ability, and must have a strong research and
    publication record appropriate to their experience and date of degree.

    experience.
