    Hi Chris,

We tried the Citrofresh a few months ago (another commercial name for the chemical, you can try also Citrex - manufactured in USA).
The results are nice (with a residual effect).
All ingredients are GRAS : extracts of citrus and ascorbic acid, if I remember.

Effective for the black spots prevention and the bacterial load (TPC and pathogens) and no organoleptic impact ! We tried also for equipment disinfection, as no need to rinse. The results are also good.

The only pbl: the price... compared to sodium hypochlorite, as the concentrations to use are higher than with the chlorine (2% to get a significant effect in Receiving, but you can use it at 0.5% before freezing and 0.1% at glazing).

    Dear List,

Does anyone have information regarding Citrosan, a disinfectant used in processing plants. I was told this has a GRAS notice issued by the FDA for contact with food.

I cannot find this in the FDA database of archived GRAS notices but perhaps this is a trade name for another product. If anyone has used this product or knows anything about it I would appreciate the information.

    Regards,

    Chris Denmark
