Dear Coleeagues,
I have the pleasure to inform you that as a result of the joint meeting of the PAN-AMERICAN NETWORK OF FISH INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL (established in 1983) and the LATIN AMERICAN NETWORK OF FISH TECHNOLOGY (established in 1993) held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from 27 November - 01 December 2006, under the auspices of FAO and INFOPESCA, the two regional networks decided to join in a single association - PAN-AMERICAN NETWORK OF FISH INSPECTION, QUALITY CONTROL AND TECHNOLOGY. INFOPESCA, Montevideo, Uruguay will act as the Secretariat for the Network.
The new network has three sections, namely: Fish Inspection & QC, Fish Technology, and Domestic Market, as well as an Advisory Committee of six members. The colleagues elected in Punta del Este to direct the network activities are the following:
President - Carlos A Lima dos Santos (Brazil)
Executive Director (Inspection & QC) -Ms Cecilia Solis (Chile)
Executive Director (Fish technology) - Ramon Pacheco (Mexico)
Executive Director (Domestic Market) - Nelson Avdalov (Uruguay)
Advisory Committee : Cesar Gentile (Argentina), Alex Goncalves (Brazil), Ms Doris Hernandez (Cuba), Byron Gurdian (Costa Rica), Ms Nelly Camba (Ecuador), and Oscar Garcia (Nicaragua)
The network, similarly to IAFI, is a voluntary association of colleagues and friends.
I use the opportunity to express the wish of the Network to establish a closer as possible relationship with the Seafood HACCP for the benefit of both entities.
Best wishes for a 2007 plenty of health, happiness and success!
Carlos
