Subject: [Elasmo-l] Squalus acanthias genetic identification
I am passing on a request from Germany.
Are you working on Squalus acanthias DNA?
If so, do you already have or could you fairly rapidly (within a few months)
develop a simple genetic test to identify meat and fin products from this
species? What would be involved in preparing a workable test and how much
would this cost (firstly to develop, secondly to use)?
Supplementary question:
There is also interest in the development of a visual guide to meat and fin
products from Squalus acanthias and from the porbeagle shark Lamna nasus
(because such products first need to be identified provisionally by eye, as
the trigger for use of more sophisticated ID techniques).
Any suggestions?
best regards for the New Year,
Sarah
