Dear All
I am seeking some information about measurement of TMA. At one time the
procedure in the 13th edn. of the AOAC Official Methods of Analysis (1980)
was often cited for determination of TMA in fish. This was based on the
original Dyer picrate procedure of 1945 which uses saturated potassium
carbonate as the alkaliser. Potassium hydroxide was shown in the 1970's to
be superior as the alkaliser because it reduces interference from DMA and
gives a slightly larger colour yield, but the AOAC 1980 procedure does not
reflect this. I have noticed in more recent years that the procedure in the
1995 edn. of the Official Methods is now being cited in papers. I do not
have access to Official Methods and I am asking if someone who has can let
me know what alkali is used in the current recommended method for TMA,
nature and concentration.
Thanks.
