To: Seafood HACCP Discussion List
I also received a request on November 8 to circulate information
regarding the survey mentioned below. The survey addresses fisheries
issues. This Seafood HACCP Discussion list focuses on seafood HACCP and
processing concerns aimed at seafood researchers, processors, importers,
educators and seafood inspectors.
I questioned the appropriateness of circulating the request on the
seafood HACCP discussion list and also the shotgun approach in
recruiting subjects. To be objective with my decision, I also
consulted with a Sea Grant fisheries colleague with a PhD in ecology
for guidance in determining the suitability of forwarding the survey to
your attention.
The following reply that I received explains why I did not forward the
messsage to this list:
"I see no reason to subject your listserv participants to this survey.
There is no guarantee of confidentiality or purpose of survey."
For those of you who are relatively new to this discussion list, the
rules are posted at: http://seafood.ucdavis.edu/listserv/listinfo.htm
One of the unacceptable content rules includes:
-Cross posting of messages from other mailing lists or bulletin boards

Subject: Survey on Fishery Management Effectiveness
Dear All,
A message from the coral list is posted herewith for your kind attention
as the author of the message is not on our list. I felt some of the
target audience is on this list.
Dr Joseph Paul Kavalam
Hi Joseph:
I would appreciate if you can pass on the survey among people
you know that may fill the survey...
Thanks again,
Camilo

Dear Listers:
We would appreciate the help of those of you with general
understanding of the fisheries in your country to fill out a survey
that has been designed to assess the effectiveness of fishery
management in countries worldwide.
The Fishery Management Assessment Project is the continuation of an
initiative to assess the effectiveness of conservation strategies
worldwide. This project will seek to quantify fishery management
effectiveness based on questions regarding several aspects of the
local fisheries. The questions are contained in a survey that can be
found at
http://as01.ucis.dal.ca/ramweb/surveys/fishery_assessment/
The survey contains 22 multiple-choice questions and takes only few
minutes to fill out.
Thank you very much for you attention and collaboration,
Camilo
P.S. the report on the effectiveness of coral reef MPAs appeared in
the June 23 issue of science and you can find a free PDF at
