On September 29, 2006 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted UPDATES of the "2005 National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) Guide for the Control of Molluscan Shellfish" at: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~ear/nss3-toc.html
This updated version includes the full text for those sections of the table of contents revised as a result of actions taken at the 2005 Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference (ISSC). Until the completed 2005 Guide is ready, all remaining sections, for which no changes were made, can be accessed via the 2003 Guide (address linked via the 2005 Guide).
The FDA expects to have the complete 2005 Guide available online by the close of business on OCTOBER 5, 2006 -- at which time the completed guide replaces this "changes only" version that is currently posted.
Note: The 2005 Guide represents the FDA's current thinking on the safe and sanitary control of the growing, processing, and shipping of molluscan shellfish for human consumption. It does not create any rights for or on any persons and does not operate to bind FDA or the public under federal law. However, through their participation in the NSSP and membership in the ISSC (http://www.issc.org), states have agreed to enforce the Model Ordinance as the requirements which are minimally necessary for the sanitary control of molluscan shellfish.
