    Dear Colleagues:
An AOAC "hands on" training course on the Lawrence LC Method for PSP Toxins
is now approved by AOAC and will be offered at a Seattle, WA, USA location
this June 19-21, 2006 (but not the Sept. Minneapolis option I proposed
previously). The course will precede the AOAC Pacific NW meeting in nearby
Tacoma and this latter meeting will also be of interest due to toxin
subgroup meetings, etc. For that there is a special conference registration
rate for those getting the method training ($450 for meeting plus training,
    $400 training alone).
See below including the registration link. Also for planning purposes please
drop me an informational note (this wont guarantee your spot see below) if
you would plan to attend (and how many from your lab), if you also plan to
go to the subgroup meetings in Tacoma, and if I can answer any questions.
Information will be appearing on the toxins TF website (below) in the next
few days but I wanted to pass this information on as soon as possible
Please note also that we have established a Training and Support Cadre for
this method consisting of Jim Lawrence, Barbara Niedzwiadek, and Ana
Gago-Martinez. These individuals have years of experience with the method
(Jim is method author) and were involved in development, validation, and/or
teaching the method. More information will be available later (via the Task
Force website below) on the cadre which, like the course, is part of the
Task Force's new Training and Support Initiative.
    Best Regards
    Jim

AOAC International's Marine and Freshwater Toxins Task Force:
Prior to the Tacoma AOAC meeting his year, an Orientation/Update
Meeting will be held on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Ramada Inn, Seattle
Univ. District North). Regulators, researchers, and firms in the seafood

Following the orientation meeting, the Task Force is offering, for
the first time, a Training Course for OMA 2005.6 - Paralytic Shellfish
Poisoning Toxins (saxitoxins) in Shellfish - Prechromatographic, Oxidation
and Liquid Chromatography with Fluorescence Detection. Instruction for this
new course will be by Health Canada, Foods Research Division and will be
held June 20-21, 2006, at Washington State DOH lab with Lawrence method
orientation and overview on the morning of June 19, 2006 at the Ramada Inn,

course will emphasize critical aspects for success using this method and is
the first in a series of courses addressing the Task Force / OMA level
official methods. There is much interest in this hands-on laboratory course,
taught by Barbara Niedzwiadek of Health Canada, Ottawa, who has years of
experience including this method's development and final validation. Course
developed by Barbara Niedzwiadek, Thea Rawn (also of Health Canada) Jim
Lawrence (Health Canada, retired) and Jim Hungerford (FDA). Many thanks from
the Task Force to the Washington State Dept. Health Laboratory, Health
