US exporters, if you conduct business with the European Union (EU), the
following information will be of interest to you.
Yesterday, the US FDA's Office of Seafood posted an updated versions of
the EU and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) export certificates for
fishery/aquaculture products and live molluscan shellfish at
http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/eucert.html
The EU Export Certificates are required for Fishery and Aquaculture
products as of 24 April, 2006 based on the EU Commission Decision
(2006/200/EC) dated February 22, 2006.
Note: previous edition certificates should be used for certificates
signed up until April 24, 2006. If previous certificates are needed
contact your local FDA district office
(http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/eucert2.html).
EU certificates are required for live bivalve molluscs, as well as
echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods intended for direct human
consumption in the European Community (96/333/EC, dated May 3, 1996)
The Food Processors Association amended these certificates and provided
them a timely manner for posting on the US FDA web site. This is an
outstanding example of how Government and industry can work together to
ensure good outcomes for everybody.
Please note that the Dutch certificate posted on the FDA site will soon be
replaced with the attached version. There is only one minor correction to
the footnote on the second page. (The corrected version is expected to be
posted some time next week. If you need a copy in the mean time, please
send me an e-mail request to: pdtom@ucdavis.edu)
