Dear All,
You can technically rely on the US importers to be sure that the
exporter has an HACCP implemented (operational is another story...).
However, you can still rely on the US DoC - NMFS Seafood Inspection
Program, or even in the future the ISO 22000, to be sure that the
exporters respect the FDA guidance.
In the case of the EU, every exporter that ships to EU has to be in a
positive list, the EU Approval Number on the packaging is here to
prove that the local "competent authorities" has inspected the plant
and concluded that it was in compliance with EU regulations. The EU
FVO performs yearly inspection in the exporting country to be sure
that the local competent authorities do the job correctly.
