    TWO ONLINE FOOD SAFETY COURSES NOW AVAILABLE AT BCIT...

    The Food Technology Program at British Columbia Institute of Technology
    (Burnaby, BC, Canada) delivers 2 online courses related to food safety
    during food processing. With the online format, plant workers can train
    at home or workstations can be set up at the plant. For course
    descriptions, learning outcomes, and how to register, click the links
    after the course names below, or copy and paste the web address into your
    internet browser.

    FOOD 1301 Food Safety for the Plant Worker (
    http://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/food1301), 15 hrs, 1 credit (online
    course). Register anytime (continual intake) - Basic concepts of food
    safety concerns including basic microbiology, food-borne illnesses,
    allergens, personal hygiene and handling, GMPs and HACCP. Uses
    self-quizzes, interactive learning activities and assignments. This course
    was designed with input from various sectors of the food industry, the
    Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Richmond Health Servcies, and the
    Ministry of Agriculture and Lands.

    FOOD 1178 Prerequisite Programs for HACCP (
    http://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/food1178), 24 hrs, 2 credits, Apr. 10 -
    Jun.25/06 (online course). After April 2006, we plan to offer this course
    in September, January and April each year. - For seafood and agri-food
    workers. Covers purposes of a Prerequisite Program, it's components
    (construction, hygiene, receiving, transportation, storage and shipping,
    equipment, pest control, sanitation, recall), and the approach for
    creating a Prerequisite Program Plan. Uses self-quizzes, interactive
    learning activities and assignments. This course was developed in
    consultation with various sectors of the food industry and the Canadian
    Food Inspection Agency. Here's what participants have said about the
