To list members and others with interest in bioluminescence,
In February 2006 a luminous cod roe was found in Denmark. The cod roe
contained small granules with a diameter of about 0.2 centimeter and
these granules were luminous as shown on
www.difres.dk/micro/luminous-cod-roe.htm.
I hope someone can explain this phenomenon with light being produced
within cod roe. Interestingly the luminous granules in the cod roe did
not contain luminous bacteria. Thus luminescence in the cod roe, in this
case, is not due to high concentrations of Photobacterium phosphoreum or
Vibrio logei although these luminous bacteria are regularly found in
luminous seafoods (See examples at www.difres.dk/micro/pd.htm
<http://www.difres.dk/micro/pd.htm> ).
Information about the nature of the luminescence in cod roe or about
other similar cases of luminous cod roe is most welcome.
