     Dear All,

Further to Roy Palmer/Chris Leftwich's reply...
Up to 1 Jan 2006, Directive 91/493 laid down that the EU Establishment
Number had to be on all layers of packaging and not just on one or some of
the layers. As Chris explained, consignments have historically been rejected
    for failing this point.

This directive has now been repealed and replaced by the new hygiene
regulations. Article 5 of Regulation 853/2004 lays out the details on
identification marking. In the case of seafood, the relevant paragraph of
Article 5 is 1b, which refers you to Annex II Section I of Regulation
    853/2004. 853/2004 is available here:
    http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/lex/LexUriServ/site/en/oj/2004/l_226/l_22620040
    625en00220082.pdf.

According the the regulation, if the product is intended for further
processing, the mark may now be applied to the exterior surface of the
container or packaging. The exporter might want to play it safe and carry on
labelling all layers of wrapping if exporting to the UK. There is a new
requirement for the mark to be oval in shape.

Other labelling information: as far as I am aware there is no prescriptive
legislation about what else to put on a label on a consignment. However, the
importer in the EU country must be able to produce the information required
by the Fish Labelling regulations (product description (common and Latin
names), area of capture etc.) as explained in Roy Palmer's mail.

    Regards,

    Ivan

    Dear friends,

We are exporters of value added seafood product to Europe. We are exporting
bulk pack of 10kg polybag in Master carton.

As this product goes for reprocessing and not to the consumer directly, I
want to know if the printed labels are mandatory to stick on polybags inside
the Master carton. We stick same type of labels on the master carton.

Please let me know if sticking labels both on master carton and polybags is
mandatory. Also, where can I find the related European seafood labelling

    legislations.

Thank you. Have a nice day!

    Best Regards,
    Amol.
