Dipak,
I ran a search on the US FDA's "The Seafood List"
(http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/seaintro.html) an on-line compendium with
more than 1500 species of finfish and shellfish important in the U.S. It
includes Approved Market Names, Common Names, Scientific Names, Vernacular
(local) Names and links back to the Regulatory Fish Encyclopedia
(http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/rfe0.html) for those species included.
I could find information on Pacific whiting and blue whiting, but not
"Pacific blue whiting."
Market name(s)aaaa: Whiting or Pacific Whiting
Scientific name: Merluccius productus
Common name: Pacific Whiting
Vernacular name(s): California Hake
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Market name(s): Whiting, Blue
Scientific name: Micromesistius australis
Common name: Southern Blue Whiting
Vernacular name(s): Southern Poutassou
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Market name(s): Whiting, Blue
Scientific name: Micromesistius poutassou
Common name: Blue Whiting
Vernacular name(s): Couch's Whiting, Poutassou, Putassu
The Seafood List notes that use of the vernacular name is not encouraged,
and may cause the seafood to be misbranded.
