Hello seafood colleagues - we are expanding our seafood product
development program at the Oregon State University Seafood Laboratory -
Astoria. We are currently searching for a fixed term seafood product
development specialist as part of the Oregon Sea Grant program. He/she
will be stationed in Astoria and work closely with the Community Seafood
Initiative (CSI) on development of value-added products. CSI is an
exciting partnership between the OSU Seafood Lab, Shorebank Enterprise
Pacific ( a community development bank), the Coastal Oregon Marine
Experiment Station, Oregon Sea Grant and the Seafood Consumer Center.
It combines the research capacity of the university - with the industry
and consumer training and education capacity of the Seafood Center -
with the capital investment capacity of a non-profit community
development Bank. The focus of the partnership, on product development
research and implementation, is targeted on small and mid-size firms
located in rural coastal communities hard hit by transitions in their
resource based economies. Specific goals include; product development,
innovation and capital investment; research and implementation of new
technologies and systems designed to increase economic value of Pacific
fisheries; and provide educational opportunities for the seafood
industry, students, and fishing dependent communities. More information
on the position is in the attached file.
