Hi Peter,
In the early 70's, I worked at the Halifax lab of the Fisheries Research
Board (FRB) of Canada (later called Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans, Halifax
Laboratory). I've just located a paper in my files which contains a
reference to a paper by Hess, don't know if it's the one you're looking
for:
Hess, E. Contr. Canad. Biol. Fish. 7, 149-163, 1932.
The paper containing the above reference is:
Dyer, W.J., F. E. Dyer and M. Snow. 1946. Amines in Fish Muscle III.
Spoilage of Iced Eviscerated Cod. J. Fisheries Res. Bd. of Canada 6(6):
403-413.
I also worked at the the DFO Vancouver Laboratory, and that library held
all the Pacific region FRB and DFO research bulletins and reports, plus
some from the Atlantic region. When the Vancouver lab closed, the reports
were sent to DFO's Downtown Library, so you may find it useful to contact
the latter. It's possible that the Downtown Library has moved the reports
over to the Pacific Biological Station Library, the main DFO lab still
doing fisheries research in BC. For contact info. on both libraries, see
http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/pages/libraries-bibliotheques/default_e.htm.
Hope this helps!
:-) Denise

Help in tracing a reference
Dear All
I am reviewing the use of TVB as an index of spoilage and am seeking help
in
tracking down a reference. It appears in the classic paper: Lücke, F.,
Geidel, W., 1935, Determination of volatile basic nitrogen in fish as a
measure of their freshness, Zeitschrift für Untersuchung der Lebensmittel,
70, 441-458. The citation as it appears in the paper is 'Hess: Fisheries
Experimental Station (Atlantic) 7 Nr 13 Series C Industrial Nr 5 (1932)
Toronto'. The paper includes a method for determining TVB. The British
Library, which is usually very good at supplying documents and has copies
of
Progress Reports of the Atlantic Biological Stations of the Fisheries
Research Board of Canada, can not trace the paper from this reference.
Does
anyone out there know this paper or can help me with the full journal
reference? Better still, can anyone supply me with a copy.
Best wishes
Peter Howgate
