USDA News Releases on Country of Origin Labeling Regulation - Effective April 4, 2005

    Please note that the U.S. mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL)
    regulations go into effect on April 4 for larger retail grocery
    establishments as defined in the rule.  

    Two US Department of Agriculture news releases provide information on:

    1. Notice to the Trade - covers documentation and records that must be
    maintained to substantiate country of origin and method of production

    2. Notice of effective date, April 4, 2005 - mandatory labeling of fish
    and shellfish covered commodities for country of origin and method of
    production (i.e., wild or farm-raised) will begin in retail food stores on
    April 4, 2005.
