Ref erence Paul Dion's message of the 19th.

The relevant EU regulation can be downloaded in pdf format from:

    http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/pri/en/oj/dat/2004/l_139/l_13920040430en00010054.pdf

The reference is: Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs, Official Journal of the European Communities, L139, 30.4.2004, and it might be easier to locate it at http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/search/search_lif.html using this reference.

Incidentally, this regulation does not ask for 'audits' annually or at any other interval. It recommends that HACCP be applied according to the Codex guidelines - to quote: 'The HACCP requirements should take account of the principles contained in the Codex Alimentarius.'. These can be viewed in htm format at: http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/005/Y1579E/y1579e00.htm, or purchased from FAO or local booksellers for USD 12.

Subject: EU Spoilage vrs FDA Decomposition

      Dear List Members,

A short while ago Hector Lupin, while mentioning the fact that EU and USA HACCP could be different in regulations, he used the example of of "spoilage" as being an EU hazard while the FDA makes no mention of spoilage. If this is the case, how does EU "spoilage" differ from the FDA's "decomposition".

If possible, could someone give me the web address for the EU HACCP regulations and explanations.

      Thank you in advance.
