    Dear Listers

I refer to correspondence earlier this year generated by a report on levels of PCB's/dioxins in farmed salmon. You might be interested in recommendations published on 24 June by the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) concerning the consumption of oily fish. The agency strongly recommends the consumption of oily fish and recommends a limit of 2 portions a week for young women up to and including child-bearing years and of 4 portions a week for males. These recommendations are based on a review of benefits and risks carried out by expert committees and took into account health benefits of the consumption of PUFA's and of hazards posed by PCB's/dioxins and methyl mercury. The news release is available at

and follow the links for the full report (222 pages) or sections of it in pdf format.
