Greeting from Oslo!
I was wondering if anyone has experience in microbiological testing of chitosan, especially in the base form?
It is being used for pharmaceutical purposes. We know chitosan is anti-microbial and in this form it is not water-soluble.
Both the producer and our lab know that this will affect our results if we use standard methods without modifications.
Are there recommended standard methods for solubilization and for inactivating the anti-microbial properties?
The requirement is to test for:
aerobic colony count (<10 cfu/g), yeast and mold (<10 cfu/g), coliforms/E. coli (not detected/1 g) and Salmonella (not detected/25 g).
I hope there is someone willing to share some information so that we don't need to reinvent the wheel.
Thank you for your time!
With best regards,
Karl Eckner
