Here's a reply from a colleague [thanks, IS!] on the topic of whiteners
and advice on how to locate any ingredient in the FDA's Investigations
Operations Manual:
"I stopped by the FDA Office of Seafood booth at the Boston Sea Party. I
asked about using H2O2 as a bleaching agent for squid, cuttlefish and the
like. They went directly to the website and indicated that it was not
approved for bleaching seafood products. Here is how to look:
www.fda.gov
Under "Reference Room", click on "Manuals and Publications"
Scroll down to open "Investigations Operations Manual"
The search function will help to locate any ingredient in the IOM."

Is H2O2 acceptable?
If not, what is the concern on its use?
