Iowa State University is seeking nominations and applications for the
position, Director, Institute for Food Safety and Food Security. The
Institute for Food Safety and Food Security was established 2002-2003 as a
Presidential Initiative Program. The Institute's interdisciplinary
affiliated faculty, more than 70, originate from five of the eight
colleges of Iowa State University; Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine,
Family and Consumer Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Engineering.
The Director's faculty home department will be determined by the
discipline of the successful candidate.
The Director will be responsible for setting direction, promoting,
coordinating, and implementing the research, education, and outreach
agendas and goals for the Institute and its affiliated Centers (Food
Safety Consortium, Food Safety Research Consortium, BIGMAP, and Center for
Food Security and Public Health). The Institute is comprised of seven
units, which embrace all aspects of food safety and security. The Director
will also develop state, federal, and industrial partnerships to enhance
the advancement and achievement of research and education goals of the
Institute and Iowa State University.
Qualifications commensurate with rank of professor: a Ph.D. or equivalent
degree in one of the disciplines represented by the five colleges
affiliated with the Institute; must be of national/international stature
with strong leadership, entrepreneurial, interpersonal and communication
skills; a record of research accomplishment in the food safety and/or food
security continuum (farm to table). Iowa State University is a member of
the Association of American Universities (AAU) and is ranked as one of the
top 50 public universities in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. It
is one of the nation's leading land-grant institutions and is categorized
by the Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral/research university-extensive.
Student enrollment is over 28,000 from all 50 states and more than 100
foreign countries. Iowa State University's central campus was one of only
three university campuses to make the American Society of Landscape
Architect’s 1999 centennial list of Medallion Sites." Visit
