    I believe you are asking two different questions. If you are going to wash
    your hands with soap and water, they should be dried, preferably using a
    disposable, paper towel. However, an alternative is to use an alcohol gel
    which does not require drying. They both need to be used, but at different
    stages in the daily routine.

    The CDC recently recommended alcohol gels for surgeons and I have been using
    them for several years as a routine hand sanitizing step when returning or
    when hand sanitizing is needed on the production line.
