FISHERIES & ALLIED AQUACULTURES EXTENSION SPECIALIST
The Department of Fisheries & Allied Aquacultures, Auburn University is
seeking candidates for an Extension Specialist. Position is responsible
for communication and assistance to seafood processors, wholesalers and
retailers in coastal Alabama, other fish processors located in Alabama and
processors throughout the Gulf Coast Region. This position is located at
the Auburn University Marine Extension and Research Center in Mobile,
Alabama.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: provide technical
assistance to seafood processors, wholesalers and retailers in coastal
Alabama, other fish processors located in Alabama and processors
throughout the Gulf Coast Region; provide factual information on
compliance with state and federal food safety regulations; provide
training and assistance with HACCP requirements; coordinate and
participate in Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant projects and proposals;
develop extension publications and demonstration projects; create a
newspaper column; and participate in Alabama Cooperative Extension System
work plans and evaluations.
Designation as an Extension Specialist requires a M.S. degree in Food
Science, Microbiology or related discipline. Knowledge and experience in
working with seafood processors, regulatory agencies and HACCP is
required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated
technical excellence are also required. Desired qualifications include:
experience in public speaking and/or development of training programs and
training materials; and knowledge of risk commendations. The candidate
selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements
for work in the United States.
