TYPICAL DUTIES: The successful applicant will conduct chemical and
biochemical analysis, including lipid and protein analysis, on fish and
seafood samples using both automated and manual techniques. The job
requires analytical chemistry skills, instrumental analysis, and data
entry and manipulation in a computer spreadsheet. The successful candidate
will receive training in the area of lipid chemistry, including
quantification of fatty acids and lipid classes in seafood samples.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of standard laboratory methods is
necessary. The technician must be able to perform routine analyses of
seafood samples; have skills in collecting and recording laboratory data
and basic statistical procedures in data analyses; be familiar with
Windows 2000 XP and college level mathematics. The ability to work with
limited supervision, to follow oral and written instruction, and to
maintain logbooks also paramount.
EDUCATION: A B.S. in chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Fisheries or
Equivalent experience in a related field.
