Fr: Pamela Tom, UC Davis Sea Grant Extension Program
Following a successful 30 year career in public service dedicated to
ensuring a safe and wholesome seafood supply, Dr. Robert J. Price's last
day with the University of California Sea Grant Extension Program as a
seafood technology extension specialist was today. Bob, a walking
encyclopedia of seafood safety and processing knowledge, has made many
contributions in providing technical assistance and information to food
processors, food service, importers/brokers, food educators (media),
academia, and regulatory personnel.
Bob has distinguished himself in seafood technology history as an
outstanding leader which resulted in extraordinary service such as:
1. creating this seafood HACCP mailing list(!!) (which has
over 850 subscribers world wide from over 50 countries)
2. creating the Seafood Network Information Center web site
(http://seafood.ucdavis.edu) -- the first web site to address
seafood technology interests
3. serving as chair and principal author of the Seafood HACCP Alliances'
"Compendium of Fish and Fishery Product Processes, Hazards, and
Controls" (http://seafood.ucdavis.edu/haccp/compendium/compend.htm)
4. serving on the Seafood HACCP Alliance's steering committee, writing
chapters for the Basic HACCP Course and Sanitation and Control
Procedures curriculums, and training trainers and industry or
regulatory attendees domestically and abroad
5. serving as an Institute of Food Technologists founding, steering
committee member, and chairman of the Aquatic Food Products Division
A summary of Bob's outstanding career accomplishments are featured on the
California Sea Grant College Program web site at:

Bob will become an emeritus specialist with the University of California
at Davis. He told me today that he can hardly wait to get his new parking
permit (free parking on campus!!) and library card. Among many future
plans, Bob will continue writing a book about his family genealogy. It's
currently up to about 700 pages. (There is royalty in his lineage!)
I hope that the global seafood community joins me in thanking Bob <e-mail:
rjprice@ucdavis.edu> for all that he has done to enhance seafood quality
and safety and in wishing him a happy retirement and success with his
future!
