    Dear Colleagues and Seafood Industry Friends:

    The 2003 Trans-Atlantic Fisheries Technology (TAFT) Conference will meet
    June 10-14 at the Grand Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland.

    This first joint conference combines the 33rd annual Western European
    Fish Technologists’ Association (WEFTA) conference and the 48th Atlantic
    Fisheries Technology Conference (AFTC).

    The conference will focus on increasing awareness and international
    networking in fisheries research to ensure development of high quality,
    health promoting and safe fish products. A broad base of topics will
    include:

    · Molecular biology techniques for use in fish and fishery products;
    · Development of new, functional fish products to promote human health
    and well-being;
    · Novel components derived from marine origin including better
    utilization of by-products, fish waste and effluents from fish
    processing;
    · Scientific bases for international standards on quality and safety of
    fish products;
    · Aquaculture’s contribution to new seafood products and future supply;
    · Influence of feed and feeding processes on quality factors such as
    nutrient composition and eating quality of aquacultural species;
    · Consumer perceptions to fish consumption; and,
    · Traceability in the fishery chain to increase consumer confidence in
    fish products.
