    Fr: Pamela Tom, List co-owner

Since our last viral transmission from someone fraudently using Peter
Howgate's e-mail address (this happened about a month or so ago), I've
noticed many virus's coming in directly to me from people whom I know or
don't know. Even my e-mail address was used to send a fraudulent virus to
a company. These viral messages that steal your e-mail address identity
are beyond our control. We don't know when it will happen.

Unfortunately, some messages carry through on this mailing list that are
not legitimately sent by the owner. The most recent viral message
illegitimately used Bob Price's e-mail address, but the message originated
from Chile with a virus containing attachment.

This is a reminder to not open any attachments that come through on this
mailing list. Instead of attaching files on this mailing list,
    subscribers are reminded to please:

    -condense their messages
-refer others to web site addresses, or
-offer to send attachments privately among senders instead of via this
    list.

These two web sites provide information on removing the W32.Klez.h@mm
    virus:

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.tool.html

    http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99455

As soon as I notice that the site has been hit, I immediately take action
in contacting the UC Davis Postmaster to remove the e-mail message from
the digest and Seafood web archives. I also go on the web and look for
    solutions via Symantec and McAfee.

    These things happen.

    Cautionary reminders:

    - Update your antiviral software on a regular basis. (I check every few
    days.)
    - Do not open e-mail attachments from anyone unless you expect the
    attachments.
