    dear list members,
Thank GOD.the iist is again getting lively.
thank you mr.Daniel Nunez, you have raked up an unscrupulous practice in seafood retailing
to the attention of the list.no standard practices for net wt.is followed and the consumer is being cheated in many instances. nobody cares, may be because the average consumer feel this is a 'fishy business'.
my thanks for mr.Evert Liewes,mr.George Souza,mr.John McGraw and mrs.Martha.R.Roberts for their valuable comments and obserations.
there is also a flip side to the story. we buy many food products from
the market.on most packets declaration of weight is- net weight when packed.for example-
bread-the packet is marked 1lb./454grams.,we pay for it.when we open the packet and the
bread is weighed ,it is always less.if this is so,how can we accuse the seafood processor
alone. let me put it like this-a sea food processor puts 4lbs.of shrimp, adds
half lbs.of glaze water and freezes.the frozen product is packed.even if the packet shows-
net wt.4lbs.when packed, still the sea food processor will be accused.
I feel reasonable tolerances in net wt. must be also given to seafood
also.to what extend?my humble suggestion is for a cosensus formula by the industry, trade,
consumer bodies and the seafood professionals.
                                      have a good day.
