>From the discussion on calibration (or not) of salometers (salt hydrometers)
I learned that there are plastic hydrometers on the market which do need to
be checked for accuracy. A respondent said:
"these hydros tended to fail due to glue release or seam
leakage and regular calibration WAS necessary"
Also mentioned were the conductivity meters which of course need
calibration. All other respondents, in one way or another, said they failed
to see any useful purpose in calibrating the common glass salt hydrometers.
Some also mentioned the obvious - keep glass instruments in the lab, not the
process area.
Thanks to all who took the time to respond!
