Dear Seafood List Members,
Please join us for the eleventh biennial conference of the International
Institute of Fisheries Economics & Trade (IIFET), August 19-22 2002 in
Wellington, New Zealand. The title of the conference is "IIFET 2002:
Fisheries in the Global Economy" and themes include:
* Future paths for rights based fisheries management - co-management,
devolution and beyond
* International Seafood Trade: rules-based reform
* Economic solutions to customary, aboriginal, and traditional fishing
rights issues
* Fisheries management through Regional Fisheries Organisations
* Marine resources for recreation and tourism
* Ecosystem and Oceans Policy approaches to fisheries management
* Theoretical and Empirical Bio-economic analysis
IIFET's primary goal is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and
solutions to fisheries and marine resource issues. Individuals from every
country and professional orientation are welcome encouraged to participate.
We hope to see academics, government managers, private industry
representatives from fishing, processing and marketing sectors,
representatives from international organizations, economists, and other
social and biological scientists at this conference.
Registration for the four day conference covers attendance at sessions,
lunches, and proceedings, and runs from approximately $US 395 to $460 (with
lower prices available for students).
Please submit a 250 word abstract by January 31, 2002 (extended deadline)
for consideration by the scientific committee. Fax or email it in the body
of a message (not as an attachment) to organizer Bruce Shallard & Associates
(address below).
New Zealand has much to offer the eager tourist seeking beautiful natural
settings, good food and wine; pre and post conference tours of "Middle
Earth" are available.
Please visit the conference website at http://www.iifet2002.com for more
