IEC… Announces Launch of A New Not-For-Profit Society
IEC INTERNATIONAL is pleased to be able to use its "Whats New" service to announce the formation of the LIVE MARINE FISH RESEARCH SOCIETY There has been, and continues to be, initiatives underway to develop various aspects of the LIVE marine fish industry in British Columbia. These include, but are not limited too: - Fishing Gear Development (hook, trap, cage, net) - Harvest Methodology - At Sea Transportation - Validation - Land Transport - Live Holding - Growout of LIVE fish - Aquaculture - Hatchery Development - Disease Evaluation - Nutrition - Packaging - Processing - Regulations (fish openings, transfer licenses, ponding licenses, etc.) - Air Transport - Marketing and Market Development Ø Since the late 1970's when the Sablefish ponding work was begun, industry has undertaken much of this work independently and at significant cost, and in most cases -- loss. Support gained in one area tended to be thwarted by constraints in another. Ø Twenty years later, individual companies continue to deal independently with governments, etc. with respect to issues such as permits, licenses, tenures, disease, validation, research, etc. This process is expensive, redundant, and difficult, as industry initiatives most often precede the development of appropriate government policy. The result has been the stymied development of, what will eventually become an extremely valuable industry in British Columbia and other parts of Canada. Ø In an effort to support the technologies and policies that will support the development of an environmentally and economically sustainable LIVE marine fish industry in British Columbia, and Canada, interested industry members have come together to form the--LIVE MARINE FISH RESEARCH SOCIETY (A NOT-FOR-PROFIT SOCIETY).
