    There is still time to register for the 4th World Fish Inspection and
    Quality Control Congress and the additional events that are being hosted by
    the International Association of Fish Inspectors (IAFI).

    The 4 Special Events are being hosted by the International Association of
    Fish Inspectors. These events provide some unique opportunities to learn in
    a hands-on environment and are filling up fast.

    CANNED TUNA SENSORY WORKSHOP

    The Workshop will commence at 9:00 am on October 18 and conclude in the pm
    of October 19, 2001
    Representatives from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the US Food and
    Drug Administration and the National Marine Fisheries Service will lead a
    workshop in the Burnaby CFIA Laboratory to demonstrate the canned tuna
    standard in place in Canada and the United States and how they relate to
    the Codex standard. The workshop format will consist of a demonstration of
    the standard to participants, followed by an opportunity for participants
    to try their skills at sensory evaluation of commercial and spoilage run
    samples.
    The cost is CDN$75.00.

    RISK ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP

    John Sumner is a private consultant from Australia. John has done
    considerable work for FAO in the area of Risk Assessment and has presented
    this workshop in many countries. The workshop is interactive and will last
    4 hours.

    The Workshop is comprised of five sections:
    1. Basics of Risk Assessment
    2. How to do a Risk Assessment
    3. Output from a Risk Assessment
    4. Risk management
    5. Case studies

    The Workshop will be held on Sunday Oct. 21, 2001 from 1-5pm at the
    Sheraton Vancouver - Wall Centre Hotel.

    The cost to IAFI members is CDN$50.00 and non-members CDN$ 100.00.

    TRACEABILITY WORKSHOP

    Dr. Mike Dillon will present a workshop on traceability. During the
    programme we will examine the need to build effective traceability systems
    into supply chains, within factory and into distribution. The market and
    legislation is increasingly demanding that we can trace key items within
    the food chain. The workshop will look at the legal and market forces and
    review existing industry practices and potential solutions.

    The Workshop will be held on Monday Oct. 22, 2001 from 9am-1pm at the
    Sheraton Vancouver - Wall Centre Hotel.

    The cost to IAFI members is CDN$50.00 and non-members CDN$ 100.00.

    VANCOUVER ISLAND STUDY TOUR

    The Vancouver Island Study Tour will consist of two full days of touring
    facilities of interest to the fish inspection community including
    processing, molluscan shellfish, and laboratories.

    The tour will commence in the late afternoon of October 28, departing by
    bus from the Sheraton Vancouver - Wall Centre Hotel and traveling by ferry
    to Vancouver Island. The tour will end late on October 30 at the Wall
    Centre Hotel.

    The cost for the tour is CDN$ 120.00.
