Gudjon,
According to the US National Seafood HACCP Alliance's "Sanitation Control
Procedures for Processing Fish and Fishery Products Manual" Chapter 8, page
8-8, a rat can pass through an opening of 0.5 inches (12.7 mm). The manual
can be downloaded from SeafoodNIC (http://seafood.ucdavis.edu) using Acrobat
Reader at:

Subject: Exclusion of rodents from factories
Dear members
Does anyone now what is believed to be the adequate grid size in the
context of preventing rodents (mainly rats) from entering an establishment.
From what I have read, a 10 mm grid should be sufficient. Does anyone have
a suggestion to where I could find more information regarding this subject.
Best regards
Gudjon Gunnarsson
